Sherman tanks
The Van Doren brothers and partners opened the Van Doren Rubber Company in 1966. The company consisted of a manufacturing facility and retail store that made the customization of shoes possible. In the same year they released the style #44, now known as the Vans Authentic, a shoe that according to one of the founders was the equivalent of Sherman tanks. This was due to the tick soles and durability of the materials used in the shoes. Throughout the 1980s and 1990s, the company, Vans, started releasing the icons that we know of today such as the Sk8-Hi and classic slip-on. Followed up by signing a long-term partnership with Supreme in 1996, the brand managed to catch the eyes of various consumers. Until this day, the sneakers are mostly loved within the skate community, but it has also made its way into popular culture through collaboration with Marvel, David Bowie, and Nintendo
